Being Biblically Correct in a Politically Correct World
Posted on April 6, 2021
We live in an astounding time. Several Dr. Seuss books have been banned. Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head have been changed to just “Potato Head” because genders don’t matter anymore. Coca-Cola recently had a course for its workers, admonishing them to be “less white.” The transgender movement demands that we use the “correct pronouns” of the gender with which they identify. The political correctness in our culture is getting worse, so the question is, how can we as Christians live during such ridiculous times?
First, don’t succumb to political correctness. If you do, you won’t satisfy the Left. They are never satisfied! It’s always sad to see people who have said something that is perfectly fine (about the United States flag, for example) and then apologize. There was no reason to apologize, but the Left made them feel like monsters. The right thing to do would be to stand up for what you said. “No, I will not apologize. I didn’t say anything wrong, and I will not be forced to succumb to your doctrine.” We need more of this!
Second, stand up for what you believe. I know that this is hard because the culture is so anti-God, but it’s either stand up or submit. Stand up for your convictions. That’s exactly what Jack Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop of Lakewood, Colorado did. By refusing to make a cake for a gay couple’s wedding, he was sued and the case went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, and he won the case! Taking a stand might mean risking everything, but don’t forget that God will stand with you. If you’re not willing to stand, then you ARE a part of the problem.
We as Christians must not be politically correct. We must not succumb to “wokeness.” Instead let’s strive to be biblically correct. What does that mean? Simply put, it means living your life according to the Bible. This will clash with our PC culture. The Bible calls the gay lifestyle sinful (see Gen. 19, Lev. 18:22, Rom. 1:27). The Bible is against following your heart (see Pro. 28:26, Jer. 17:9). The Bible teaches spanking (see Pro. 13:24, 22:15, 23:13, 29:15). And, to top it all off, the Bible says that Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven (see John 14:6). We as Christians can be accused of being narrow-minded, and that’s true. Our beliefs should be as narrow as the Bible.
The problem is, Christians aren’t standing up and speaking out. They’re going along with the culture. They’re afraid of being called bigots and racists. Let me be clear: it takes guts to stand up in this kind of culture. You don’t want to become a target. But we should not be ashamed to stand up for what we believe. Jesus never commanded us to be tolerant, He commanded us to speak the truth. “Speaking the truth in love” (Eph. 4:15) is exactly what every Christian should be doing. To keep quiet or to apologize is to submit to the Left’s radical doctrine. Don’t bow to them, stand up against them.
Our lives should be shaped by the Bible. The people of the world shape their lives according to the culture, and the culture has gone crazy. Books are being banned, companies are being canceled, and people are admitting shame for being white! Is this the way you want to live? The only other option is to oppose the PC culture. So let’s be biblically correct—learn the Bible, and then live it. Stand up for the truth of God’s Word, and God will stand with you. That’s what we need. Will you be a part of the solution?
